Week 3: When Obedience Becomes Radical

Read Titus 2:11-12

What are we to say no to?

Define this in the realm of your everyday life.

Titus 2:11-12 in The Message says, "God's readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation's available for everyone! We're being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he acn be proud of, energetic in goodness."

Is turning our backs on the godless, indulgent life taking away from our lives or adding to it?

What is taking away? What is it adding?

Is there something that stirred in your heart as you read this chapter that God might be leading you to give up either permanently or for a season?

What is holding you back from doing this?

Comment on this statement from the chapter. " We need not fear what our obedience will cause to happen in our life. We should only fear what our disobedience will cause us to miss."

Read Isaiah 41:13. Are we to give things up in our own strength? Are we walking this new path of deeper obedience alone?

How refreshing and comforting to know that God doesn't point us down this path of obedience adn then simply stand back to watch us struggle. No, He takes our hand and leads us, whispers reassurances, and gives us back to much more than we give up. In the chapter we read John 15:4. Write down that verse in your notes.

List the fruits found in the secret abiding place.

Of all these fruits, list three that you want to focus on when you escape to the secret place with God this week.

Now, look up scriptures that give direction and instruction on pursuing these fruits and record them below.
